The Irmo High School Band Boosters are pleased to announce The 2010 Palmetto Esprit de Corps Invitational Marching Band Contest, Presented by the U.S. Marine Corps.  The event will be held at W.C. Hawkins Stadium, located on the campus of Irmo High School in Columbia, SC, on Saturday, September 25, 2010.

ENTRY FEE & DEADLINE
To ensure you obtain a performance position preferred by you please complete a registration form and mail, along with the registration fee as soon as possible. The Registration of $75 fee is due on or before September 3, 2010. After September 3, bands will be accepted on a space available basis. The host band director will select preferences for performance times within each class in the order in which registration fees are received.

BAND CLASSIFICATION
Class will be determined by the number of wind players in the band. Classifications are as follows:

Silver Division: Class A less than 40
  Class AA 41 - 60
Gold Division:  Class AAA 61 - 80
  Class AAAA 81 and above

Directors may elect to register one classification level higher than their classification by the above table. Bands may not register in a lower classification than their original class.

SCBDA SCORING

The event will be scored using SCBDA Adjudication sheets and guidelines.

AWARDS & TROPHIES
First, Second and Third place trophies will be presented to the top three bands in each classification. Additionally, trophies will be awarded for overall Best Percussion and Best Auxiliary in each class. For both the Silver and Gold Divisions, the top scoring band, regardless of class, will be presented the Grand Champion Trophy for their division.

WARM-UP & PERFORMANCE
Bands will be scheduled in 15 minute performance slots. All bands should attempt to perform within a six to ten minute time span. Irmo High School will use the large parking lot next across the street from the school  for bus parking, warm-up, and staging. In addition, percussion can warm-up with the band and go to the stadium from this area. Warm-up times and locations before performances will be provided.

JUDGING
Judges are selected from among the finest music educators in the United States.  Judges will evaluate each band's performance as to Music, Visual Execution, and Overall Effect.  Additional judges evaluate percussion and auxiliary teams.

  • Mr. Ed Argenziano - Denville, NJ - Morris Knolls High School, BOA & WGI Music/Percussion Judge, Row-Loff Music composer/arranger

DVD VIDEO & JUDGE'S AUDIO COMMENTARY
Each director will receive a DVD video of their performance and a flash drive with audio of each judge’s commentary (new for 2010).

MISCELLANEOUS
Directors of registered bands will receive a complete packet including scheduled performance times, rules, regulations, and maps, as well as information about the campus and surrounding area.

Passes for staff members and chaperones can be picked up at registration on the day of the festival.

An assortment of booths providing fast foods, drinks, and souvenirs will be available during the festival.
