Dear Band Families,
Hard to believe that marching band is almost done for this year, it has been such a quick season. The first football state play-off game is November 11th which could put us in the stands that night stay tuned for more information.
Come out and cheer our students on to state. The rest stop on Rte 26 east bound which is mile marker 123 on the way to Orangeburg (no hyphen this time) at 10:45 AM on Saturday look for Caroline Buck's silver mini van, bring your signs, balloons, or just yourself out to cheer as the busses pass the rest stop. Our performance time is 3:15 PM though if you want to see us, you should plan on being there by at least 2:30 PM. It can be a bit of a walk from the parking area at SC state. The boosters will feed the students lunch and dinner so souvenir and snack money is all they will need.
Sunday, the students will be performing in our own stadium for family and friends around 5:00 PM. The students will stay in uniform so that you can take pictures with them either in the end zone under the scoreboard or for those that would prefer not to do the steps down to the field up under the stadium. What a great time for those supporting grand parents and younger siblings to get a picture with your student in uniform or costume.
After the students put away their uniforms and instruments they will be picking up a dinner ticket from the uniform room for dinner at Frankie's fun park 140 Parkridge Drive Columbia, SC 29212-1732 (803) 781-2342 for a hot dog or hamburger meal and some fun. Please plan to transport your student to the park by 7:00 PM for dinner look for the tent by the batting cages. Families are encouraged to join everyone at Frankie's no cost to come and mingle with other parents or watch your student drive a go cart for the first time. If you would like to join us for dinner it is a mere $2.25 per person and extra ride tickets are only $15.00 for a set of three. You will be able to find me on the course getting in 18 holes (the only golf I can seem to master). Please plan to pick up your student at 8:30 PM which is our official end time though the park is open until 10:00 PM.
Sunday, after the students are finished with pictures the Hi-Steppers will be returning garment bags and costumes for the final time and we recommend 7th and 8th grade students turn in their wind suits for us to store until next year. As a marching band member you only receive one wind suit your first year, and as the younger students have not all gone through their growth spurts yet, if the wind suit is still in mint condition we will trade them for a larger size next year or reissue the same one from this year if it still fits. The best way to keep it in mint condition is to clean it after Saturday and place it in a zip lock bag, then we will hold onto it for your student. If not in mint condition and it does not fit you will need to purchase one for your student next year.
Just a reminder final assessment payments may be placed in the booster box in the high school band room Friday at the game.
Looking forward to seeing you Saturday at Sate finals in Orange-burg!!!!! (I know, I just like the hyphen better)
Remember to ask if teachers and friends would like some band fruit, it sells itself. The principle from the middle school calls me every year because everyone forgets to ask her.
